Where I Started
From Small Thing Into Big Thing
Sandra was born in Nogales, Sonora
With Mexican American & Arizona roots, as her mother Elena was born to her Native Arizonan grandmother Isabel, born in Ajo, Arizona! She grew up in Arizona’s 3rd congressional district in South Phoenix & is a longtime local activist. She has always been frustrated & disappointed with career politicians & in the slow economic growth and lack of representation of her community!
This is the reason Sandra is running for Congressional District 3 to change this slow progress and advocate for solutions that will help her community. Sandra believes it is important to have a representative in Congress who mirrors, understands and relates to the experiences of the community it serves and who will FIGHT & work to bring change and policies to support our community that is underserved and underrepresented.
Sandra started her community activism, journalism & advocacy volunteering for Cesar Chavez’s Farm Workers Union National Radio Network “Radio Campesina” as a DJ when it first came to El Mirage, Arizona! Soon, she found herself passionately marching in protest with the iconic Dolores Huerta against all the anti-immigration legislation targeting our Hispanic communities via Sheriff Arpaio’s & Jan Brewer’s despicable anti-immigration sentiments. No, Arizona now a purple & leaning blue state, did not happen by a mere accident or whisper! It happened during our decades of FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT AGAINST THOSE THAT CRAVE TO DIVIDE US & SHE IS PROUD TO HAVE BEEN PART OF THIS GREAT CHANGE!
As a working single mother raising 3 children, Sandra understands the trials & tribulations of economic challenges. She knows what it feels like, to sit at the kitchen table wondering how she was going to pay the mortgage, put food on the table, pay medical bills & all the kitchen table issues all Americans contemplate as they work hard to make ends meet! She understands how hard it is to pull yourself by your bootstraps as she had to do every single day living paycheck to paycheck while working on a banker’s stagnate salary not keeping up with inflation.
Sandra believes our government for the PEOPLE & by the PEOPLE should not be there to fix every of our problems, but they should at least UNDERSTAND & MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO HELP, BY MAKING OUR LIVES EASIER with policies & programs that lift us up, instead of bringing us down. Because like most of us living in District 3, Sandra DID NOT come from a rich family or have the leisure of having a rich parent pay her way through an Ivy League University.
Sandra is a believer that with hard work and a great education, the possibilities are endless in these United States of America, the bedrock of the AMERICAN DREAM! She is proud to say that although she had to drop out of college to raise & help put her children through school, all three of her children are ASU college graduates! Her children are living proof that anyone can rise as high as their dreams & hard work will take them, even if they come from humble beginnings & lower middle class means!
NOW SANDRA IS READY TO FIGHT FOR YOUR FAMILIES & CHILDREN, JUST AS SHE DID FOR HER FAMILY! SHE IS READY TO FIGHT FOR OUR DISTRICT 3 COMMUNITIES TO END THE SLUGGISH PROGRESS! SANDRA BELIEVES ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WHEN A COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER TO HELP & SUPPORT EACH OTHER.
SANDRA IS HUMBLY, ASKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT & VOTE SO WE CAN CHANGE THE STATUS QUO & TRULY SEE THE CHANGE IN OUR COMMUNITIES WE SO DESPERATELY NEED & RIGHTLY DESERVE! SANDRA COMMITS TO FIGHTING FOR YOUR FAMILIES, JUST AS SHE HAS FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT FOR HER FAMILY.
